Working with local communities against domestic violence

Our program addressing domestic violence combines support for specific cases of women and children needing legal assistance or counseling guidance with an outreach program of education and training. Program workers visit local rural communities around the city of Estelí a couple of times a week working with local medical personnel, doing educational work in schools and helping local families. These photos show our psychologist Karen Villarreyna and legal worker Maria Felix Castillo visiting a family in the community of El Hilguero and also imparting training workshops at local health centers in Puertas Azules and in Santa Cruz. Karen and Maria Felix work with interns from the local National Autonomous University campus, currently 5th year psychology student Dayana Molina, and final year social work student Heydi Rodríguez.
