Project against domestic violence working in coordination with the Ministry of Health
To contribute to improving the ability of program participants to manage their emotions and develop their emotional intelligence, the ICES project supports patients who are going through difficult diagnoses or having serious physical health issues
Via this comprehensive care, we occasionally identify cases of families where there is intrafamily violence or people with problems of mental health.
Three months ago our team was able to help provide integral comprehensive care to a woman diagnosed with cervical-uterine cancer in the community of Guingajapa. We worked out a protocol with local health workers for the patient and her family and provided the relevant psychotherapeutic care to complement the care this patient received from Nicaragua’s free public health system. This has involved treating the patient 4 consecutive months for post-traumatic stress disorder triggered by the medical diagnosis. Currently, after timely comprehensive care provided to the patient and family, the patient has been discharged from the psychotherapeutic care although she is still being monitored by the local health post with which our team maintains close coordination.
