Medical brigade to Jícaro, San Nicolás

On February 11th, Superemos provided logistical support and help with medicines for a medical brigade organized with the local Health Ministry (MINSA) and the medical faculty of the local campus of the National Autonomous University (UNAN) to deliver care to the rural community of El Jícaro in the municipality of San Nicolás. Four MINSA medical staff (three general medical practitioners and a internal medicine specialist) delivered care to a total of 85 patients 63 female and 22 male, of whom 31 were children and 54 were adults. The brigade was supported by Karen Villarreyna and Maria Felix Castillo of the Superemos program addressing domestic violence who gave psychological care to 8 patients. Four students from the UNAN received patients and gave preventive health education talks. The brigade was accompanied by other MINSA personnel performing laboratory tests, carrying out MINSA’s program addressing reproductive health, doing ultrasound examinations, monitoring young children’s nutritional health. On this occasion the brigade assisted MINSA by visiting a community called Las Ramadas even more distant than Jícaro to bring an expectant mother for medical attention whom MINSA then transferred to the local regional hospital.
