Medical brigade to Paso Real, San Nicolás

On April 29th we coordinated a medical brigade with the local health authority in Estelí to the rural community of Paso Real about 40km south west of the city of Estelí in the municipality of San Nicolás, near the departmental border with León. The group included a dentist and general medicine practitioners with support to carry out ultrasound examinations and laboratory tests. The group saw a total of 105 patients (39 women, 37 children and 29 men). The Superemos team working on a program to address domestic violence saw 2 patients who wanted to discuss their family situation. Three medical students and two social work students from the local campus of Nicaragua’s National Autonomous University accompanied the brigade helping to receive patients, dispatch medicines and give educational talks on preventive health care for patients with chronic illnesses.
