Medical brigade serving marginal barrios in La Trinidad

On April 21st Superemos coordinated a medical brigade with the Health Ministry’s local health authority in Estelí to serve patients from marginal barrios in the town of La Trinidad about 30km south of Estelí itself. The brigade included a gynecologist and general medicine practitioners with support to carry out ultrasound examinations and laboratory tests. They saw a total of 250 patients. Karen Villareyna and Maria Felix Castillo from our program addressing domestic violence accompanied the brigade and saw three patients who were anxious to discuss their family situation. Three medical students and two social work students from the local campus of Nicaragua’s National Autonomous University also accompanied the brigade, helping to receive patients, dispatch medicines and give educational talks on preventive health care for patients with chronic illness.
