Fluoride varnish program for preschools - July 2021
In July this year we continued to support the preventive dental health program for preschool children in the city of Estelí. This program has been designed and implemented by Boston' University’s Henry S. Goldman School of Dental Medicine and is led by Dr. Michelle Henshaw. The program activities are organized with educators of preschools in the city of Estelí supervised by the Ministery of the Family in coordination with the Ministry of Health. Despite the difficulties presented by measures taken to address the COVID-19 pandemic, Superemos has been able to maintain the activities of this program in coordination with Dr. Henshaw and her team in Boston. Currently a total of just over 700 children are particiapting in this program which involves promoting good dental hygiene by the preschool educators together with the children and their parents at school and in the home. The process of promoting good dental hygiene is supplemented with quarterly applications of fluoride varnish to help protect the children’s first teeth from dental caries.
