Donating kitchenware to families in Prinzapolka
The municipality of Prinzapolka in north eastern Nicaragua is home to over sixty communities which were very hard hit by very severe flooding during Hurricanes Eta and Iota in November of 2020. Many families los everything. Most of these communities are located either beside or very close to the River Prinzapolka. A group of Nicaraguans in Europe sent Superemos a total of US$1290 to provide assistance to families affected by the flooding. After consulting with the local authorities in Prinzapolka’s municipal centre, Alamikamba, Superemos purchased various pieces of kitchenware to make up sets of saucepans, plates and cups and other items sufficent to benefit 100 impoverished families. We delivered this kitchen equipment to Prinzapolka’s municipal authority on Thursday January 21st, thanks to help from the municipal authority of Estelí which provided the transport. From Estelí to Siuna round trip is about 550km. Once there, the team accompanying the donation had time to visit the community of Aguas Bilas, about 30 minutes from Alamikamba in panga, to donate the kitchen equipment to families in that community. We are very grateful to the Alcaldías of Estelí and Prinzapolka for facilitating this donation on behalf of the many Nicaraguans in Belgium and Spain who donated money to assist families following the devastating hurricanes of November 2020. These photographs show part of the area affected by the flooding in 2020, the delivery of the donation in Alamikamba and the handing over of sets of kitchen equipment to families in Aguas Bilas.
